African Renaissance Stadium
City: Cape Town (Green point)
Scheduled completion date: 2008
Capacity: 68,000

Currently in its planning phase, the African Renaissance Stadium is to be a multi-purpose stadium in Green Point, Cape Town.

The African Renaissance Stadium will replace the Green Point Stadium, a multi-purpose sports facility with a capacity of about 18,000, at the meeting point of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean on Cape Town's western seaboard.

The new stadium's design is expected to be complete by the end of June 2006. After construction finishes in 2008 (in time for the FIFA Confederations Cup, which South Africa will host) it will have a capacity of around 68,000 and will be used mostly for football matches.

The African Renaissance Stadium will host the opening game and one semifinal of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
