Johannesburg - The upgrading of South Africa's transport system will be a legacy project left by the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.

Government has put aside more than R9 billion to be utilised for transforming the transport system countrywide.

This emerged at the two-day Soccerex seminar held at the Sandton Convention Centre, the venue of the International Soccerex Expo for the next three years.

Soccerex, to be held in November later this year, is the largest international business to business football exhibition, giving small and big enterprises business opportunities.

The 2010 Local Organising Committee's Director of Communications, Tim Modise said R9 038 billion has been set aside for an effective, reliable and convenient transport system.

The funds are allocated in the following way:

* Cape Town - R766 million
* eThekwini - R851 million
* City of Johannesburg - R1320 million
* Mangaung - R298 million
* Mbombela - R212 million
* Nelson Mandela Bay - R520 million
* Polokwane - R179 million
* Rustenburg - R69 million
* Tshwane - 694 million

A number of transport organisations will also be injected with millions of rands in pursuit of an improved transport system.

The organisations include the:

* South African National Roads Agency Limited: R430 million
* South African Rail and Commuter Corporation: R1316 million
* Cross Border Transport Agency: R1 million
* Bus Rapid Transit System and Buses: R2317 million
* monitoring and evaluating specialists in the National Department of Transport: R65 million

The Soccerex's move from Dubai to Sandton has received immense support from football industries.

The exhibition in November will coincide with FIFA's first official event in the country for the FIFA World Cup preliminary draw which will attract the various football federations to Durban.

Three days later the same confederations will be attending the Soccerex exhibition.

The Preliminary draw has been rescheduled from the 23 to 25 November to accommodate the European calendar of Football.

The exhibition will provide opportunities in football as a business and over 5000 delegates are expected.
