Real Madrid star Zinedine Zidane feels he will be fit to play for France in their forthcoming World Cup qualifier against Switzerland.

The French take on their neighbours in a vital qualifier on October 8 and it was thought that their talisman would be absent, after being sidelined with a groin injury that he picked up playing for France against Ireland on September 7.

The 33-year-old has watched from the bench as Real have enjoyed a mixed start to the La Liga campaign but will rejoin the ranks with his side in a far healthier position than they were a couple of weeks ago following back-to-back victories for the capital outfit.

The former World Footballer of the Year is hoping to play for Real at the weekend and is confident of representing his country in a couple of weeks time.

He said: "I'm happy because barring a disaster I shall be able to play for France in Switzerland.

"I had a light training session today (Monday). I ran, kicked the ball around and didn't feel any pain.

"I shall have to play on Sunday at Mallorca and after this game and five or six days of training with France, I'm sure I'll be fit to play in Switzerland. I'll just have to be careful not to injure myself again," he added.
