Former Germany international Siegfried "Sigi" Held has joined the ranks of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Ambassadors.
Held, capped 41 times and a member of the team which contested the 1966 FIFA World Cup™ Final at Wembley as well as the 'Game of the Century' against Italy at the 1970 FIFA World Cup Mexico™, will represent semi-final venue Dortmund with immediate effect.
The 63-year-old will share his ambassadorial duties with Stefan Reuter, who took up a full-time position as General Manager with TSV 1860 Munich a few weeks ago.
"I'm delighted at this opportunity to become closely involved in the World Cup. I'm only too happy to take on the role," Held commented. Added Stefan Reuter: "It's great to have Sigi on board. I'm still very much available to serve Dortmund whenever I can find the time, especially in the period immediately preceding the World Cup, and at the tournament itself."
Sigi Held scored 43 goals in 229 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund from 1965 to 1971 and from 1977 to 1979.
Dortmund won the 1966 European Cup Winners' Cup and finished second and third in the Bundesliga with Held in the team. He scored five international goals in a Germany career spanning the period from 1966 until 1973.
