All Blacks fly half Dan Carter has been slapped with a one week ban for his dangerous tackle on Wales scrum-half Martin Roberts.
Carter was handed the suspension by International Rugby Board-appointed judicial officer, Englishman Jeff Blackett, at a hearing at London's Heathrow Airport today.
Man-of-the-match Carter escaped censure from referee Craig Joubert but Wales's Kiwi coach Warren Gatland was adamant he deserved at least a yellow card, which would have seen the playmaker sent to the sin-bin for 10 minutes.
The suspension means that Carter will miss Saturday's All Black test against Italy which he probably would have sat out anyway as Henry rotates his squad.
Carter should now be available to return against England at Twickenham a week later for a much-awaited match-up with Jonny Wilkinson.
Bay of Plenty's Mike Delany looks set to make his test debut in Carter's No 10 jersey at San Siro which is sold out for this weekend's match.
