The
1995 Rugby World Cup gave sport a moment that
will be remembered forever. Nelson Mandela
with Francois Pienaar's Number 6 Rugby Jersey
standing on the podium next to Francois Pienaar
who held the trophy high above his head.
It will always be known as the Rainbow World
Cup and will be remembered by those who were
present as one of the best organized and happiest
occasions in sporting history.
It was in this tournament that a rugby legend was born. Jonah Lomu had played for the All Blacks before on two occasions against France. Questions were raised about his fitness, commitment & tactical awareness. There were even doubts as to whether or not he would be chosen for Rugby World Cup 1995.
Coach Laurie Mains, spent hours drilling him in All Black tactical disciplines to use his power and speed to the fullest. He was already the talk of the tournament, after playing against Wales & Scotland but he made his mark against England scoring four tries in the Semi-Final.
