South Africa's political opposition party the Democratic Alliance (DA) has called on the 2010 Local Organising Committee to release quarterly reports informing the public about progress on the hosting of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The party's sport and recreation spokesman James Masango observed in a statement Sunday there had been "very little communication" between the LOC and the public about what targets had been met, and which were outstanding.
"The public deserves to know about actual progress, not just plans for the future," he said, noting that the lack of information has caused some pessimism about the event.
"If reports are sent out promptly, every three months, this will keep the media involved and informed, and help to show actual progress and highlight areas that need more attention," the DA official said.
He added that although the LOC reported to the portfolio committees, this information was not getting to the public, and as this was as much their (South African people) World Cup as the government's, they should be given progress reports.
