Prince William and David Beckham are to front England’s 2018 World Cup bid, according English Newspaper The Sun.
The Prince has agreed to play a formal role as the diplomatic leader and figurehead of the drive.
Beckham nicknamed “Goldenballs”, 32, will have an ambassadorial “supporting role” to the sports-mad royal.
The agreement was drawn up in Downing Street on Tuesday Insiders are already dubbing it “The Posh and Becks Campaign”.
The duo will be supported by a full-time chief executive figure who will assume the same role as athletics hero Lord Seb Coe – the mainstay of the successful London 2012 Olympic Games bid.
A member of the royal household said: “William’s role will be a vital piece of the jigsaw – and Beckham will play a crucial part in the event.
“It’s the perfect strike partnership for England.”
Prince William, 25, is President of the Football Association, the body officially in charge of the England bid and has won the backing of Gordon Brown’s government.
Ministers and officials are helping FA bosses in the search to find the right chief executive.
Former England captain Becks – who plays for LA Galaxy in the US – told Gordon Brown at Number 10 he does not want a full-time post running the bid as it would be time consuming.
But he assured the PM he wanted to perform the same sort of duties he carried out in the winning bid to bring the Olympics to London.
After their chat, Becks confirmed that he was keen to get involved in the 2018 bid.
He said: “I’m more than interested in bringing the World Cup to this country.”
