Australia had officially bid for 2018 world cup and it comes with Govt. support.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said Sunday that the government will back the bid and that Ben Buckley, chief executive officer of Football Federation Australia, will head the team.
"Winning the rights to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup is a Herculean task, but overcoming tough odds is what Australian football does best," Rudd said.
The 2018 host will be selected at an executive committee meeting in 2011 with up to 10 countries interested, including the United States, Russia, Spain-Portugal, England and a joint bid between the Netherlands and Belgium, which has already been accepted by FIFA.
Rudd said the team would meet within a week to begin planning the bid, the cost of which would be shared between federal and state governments.
